Ba’s First Halloween? 8 Cute Costumes

Article by Sara Seeley

Your child’s first Halloween is a memorable event. You’ll probably have the pictures of the first costume your baby wears for years. You can find baby costumes at stores like Buy.com or BuyCostumes.com. With any costume you choose, it’s important to read the labels to make sure it’s safe for younger kids. You’ll also want to ensure that it doesn’t restrict movement too much so that baby’s first Halloween is a positive experience.

1. Animal Costumes

One of the first things you probably teach your kids is about animals and the different sounds these creatures make. You can find cow, sheep, butterfly or lion costumes to integrate the same subject in a fun way. Oftentimes these will just have a hood on top with ears and horns. This can be more comfortable to wear than a mask. Cute animal costumes for girls would include a ladybug or rabbit.

2. Movie and Character Costumes

The first Halloween is going to be one of the few holidays where you get to choose the outfit by yourself. This allows you to pick a fun character costume that you love like Elvis or the star of your favorite movie. This can match your own costume. It can even include a wig for a lifelike resemblance.

3. Occupation Costumes

You can use a lot of the clothes that your child already has but in different combinations to form a costume. Try a pair of shorts and a vest for a golfing outfit. Raid the toy box for accessories. Other costumes that focus on future jobs would be a fireman, train conductor or teacher.

4. Nickname Costumes

A nickname can be the inspiration for the outfit. You can get a peanut, monkey, angel or skunk suit for a humorous and personal addition to trick or treating.

5. Toy Inspirations

Even though your baby might not be able to talk yet, you can still get his input. Just look at whatever toys that your child gravitates towards the most, and use this as the inspiration for the shopping trip. Consider dressing your child up as a doll, fairy or truck driver.

6. Classic Costumes

Classic costumes are gender neutral. This means that you can use them for several years depending on the fit or pass it down to the next child. A jack-o-lantern suit usually has a separate hat to mimic the top of the pumpkin. Depending on the weather, your baby can wear long sleeve shirts, legging or tights underneath the suit.

7. Whimsical Ideas

You can also look for a food based outfit. Popular items include peas in a pod. This can feature a warm fleece material. Strawberries can have seed appliqués, stem hats and a leaf shawl.

8. Group Costumes

Since you’ll be going trick or treating with your baby, you can get matching outfits that work together. An easy way to do this is to dress your child up as a miniature version of yourself. This allows you to use your uniform from work as a costume.
